Nate Diaz, who famously beat Conor McGregor before losing in the rematch, tweeted out last night that he would be fighting Dustin Poirier in the new division.
The 33-year-old posted: "I’m happy to announce that I’m bringing a new weight division to the Ufc.
"I’ll be fighting the main event November 3rd in nyc against Dustin Poirier for the first ever 165lb belt superfighter division.
"I’m happy to be a part of history."
This line was shared by his rumoured opponent Poirier too, who wrote on Twitter: "It's been a long journey but here we are. NYC 1st ever 165lb Title in the UFC! #THEREWILLBEBLOOD #THUGJITSU."
But respected UFC reporters in the US John Morgan and Brett Okamoto have shot down the fighters' claims, saying that the UFC have not agreed this yet.
And apparently it's come from the boss' mouth himself, Dana White.
Morgan wrote: "Well, was hoping to be able to confirm Poirier-Diaz for the UFC 230 headliner but was told by a company official that it’s the “farthest thing from the truth".
"Should clarify, fight still happening, but not for some new 165-pound title. Been a long day. Lol."
And Okamoto posted: "Just spoke to Dana White on the phone, he denied any plans of a 165-pound title fight at Madison Square Garden.
"Says he’s still working on a main event for UFC 230."
The two cage warriors are expected to meet however, but there is nothing official from the UFC that it will be in a new weight class.
