What are the permutations involved in Uefa Nations League?
- The Uefa Nations League will take place between each major tournament and feature alongside qualification for the World Cup and European Championships
- Nations League A is filled with teams ranked 1st to 12th in UEFA team coefficient rankings
- Nations League B is filled with teams ranked 13th to 24th
- Nations League C is filled with teams ranked 25th to 39th
- Nations League D is filled with teams ranked 40th to 55th
- Winner of each group in Nations League A will play in knockout rounds, including final and third-place match in June
- The four group winners in Nations Leagues B to D will be promoted to the league above
- The teams finishing bottom of their groups in Nations Leagues A and B will relegated to the league below
- The three sides finishing bottom of the four-team groups in Nations League C will relegated, along with the lowest-ranked third-placed team
- This will become the norm for future competitions for deciding places, instead of coefficient rankings
- For qualification into Euro 2020, each league will hold play-offs in March 2020 between the four highest-ranked teams that have not already qualified for the tournament
- Those teams will play each other to decide a winner from each Nations League that will secure progression to the competition
- It has not been confirmed if this system will also be used for the World Cup in 2022
