Three-time Le Mans 24hrs winner Andre Lotterer explains why 45 minute Formula E races are exhausting

The all-electric series sees two practice sessions, qualifying and the race all take place all in ONE day.

These strenuous demands take their toll on drivers mentally rather than physically.

He said: "Mentally here you are completely exhausted.

"On the other side in endurance racing, you are more physically exhausted.

“You have time to find a rhythm in endurance with everything.

"While here in Formula E every lap counts, everything you do and there are lot of random factors and trying to control all of them, it's difficult."

The races are only 45 minutes long plus one lap, but it’s the intensity of the day is which tests drivers.

The 37-year-old added: “It's a very intense mental challenge.

"The day starts very early, we're in the car at 8am and the race day starts already in the morning.

"You build up to and it's part of the race too, so it's very intense.

"Short but super intense."

Lotterer will be fighting for his first win of the season at the Santiago E-Prix, as temperatures are set to rise to almost 40 degrees.
