This is a terrible start for Browns’ new era of draft picks

The new-look Browns are reverting to their old-look dysfunction.

Their wide-receiver corps is a mess. Corey Coleman, their 2016 first-round bust, was discarded to the Bills over the weekend for a 2020 seventh-round pick. Josh Gordon is in doubt for Week 1 because he’s going through anxiety and mental health treatment.

And now, Antonio Callaway, a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft, has been cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license, according to a report from ESPN Cleveland.

According to the report, the amount of marijuana was negligible enough to be classified as a minor misdemeanor.

This isn’t Callaway’s first run-in with the law — he was suspended at Florida last year after being involved in a credit-fraud case. Callaway also tested positive for marijuana at the NFL Combine.

Other than Jarvis Landry, that’s three of the Browns’ projected top-four wideouts. Maybe that’s another reason Landry is trying to get Odell Beckham Jr. traded to Cleveland.

It’s the latest in Cleveland’s ugly recent draft history. After trading Coleman, the team no longer fields any of its first-round picks pre-2017. That ignominious lists includes Johnny Manziel (2014), Barkevious Mingo (2013) and Trent Richardson (2012).
