The offensive force Jets desperately need to lock up

There are plenty of things to complain about when it comes to the Jets these days, but a major bright spot has been the play of Quincy Enunwa.

It feels wrong to call him a wide receiver. He is like a Swiss Army Knife for the Jets’ offense, capable of so many things. Enunwa is a walking mismatch at 6-foot-2, 225 pounds and deceptively fast. Put a linebacker on him, he’ll run past him. Put a nickel corner on him, and he’ll muscle his way free.

When he catches the ball, Enunwa looks like Mark Bavaro, barreling through defenses. He plays hard on every play, the way you imagine you would if you were good enough to play in the NFL. His return from a neck injury last year has been one giant positive for this Jets offense.

Enunwa is a free agent after this season, and the Jets must sign him long term. He is exactly what the Jets have lacked: a homegrown offensive talent who plays the right way and who has kept his nose clean after an arrest as a rookie.

It is clear Sam Darnold loves throwing to Enunwa, which is an added bonus.

Whatever you do, Jets, do not let Enunwa walk out the door next March. Get a deal done.
