Stuart Pearce claims West Ham blocked his return as David Moyes’ assistant manager for criticising club after last spell – The Sun

STUART PEARCE has claimed West Ham’s owners have blocked him from returning for a second spell as a coach at the club.

Returning manager David Moyes wanted Pearce as an assistant boss but both David Sullivan and David Gold still have the hump with comments he made after the end of the 2017-18 season.

Pearce, 57, had questioned the decision not to keep Moyes as boss when he had been an assistant alongside Alan Irvine and Billy McKinlay.

Asked about whether he could return with Moyes for the new spell, after the sacking of Manuel Pellegrini, Pearce told talkSPORT: "No, It won't happen. I think the owners felt I was a little bit critical of the regime when we left last time and put the block on it.

"They make decisions, they own the club, and so you respect that and I respect that.

"They were prepared and were humble to pick up to pick the phone up and say to David: 'Will you come back in?'

"I'm just delighted to see Dave back working and working in the Premier League, which I think his talents deserve."

Moyes was appointed as interim manager by Sullivan and Gold in November 2017 and helped the club avoid relegation, but was not kept on for the following season as Pellegrini was brought in.

After Pellegrini's appointment, Pearce let his opinion be known. He said: "It’s a wonderful club – I had a fantastic seven months there and really enjoyed my time – and they've now got a very good manager.

"They’ve decided not to go down the David route. I was a little surprised by that as I saw first-hand what a good job he did in a situation that could have gone either way.

"He recouped around £25m in one transfer window. So it wasn't a case of going in there and having money to spend – he recouped money. So that money is somewhere around the club.”

Since taking over, Moyes has once again given a coaching job to the experienced Irvine.
