WALES try machine Josh Adams has handed his team a Six Nations injury boost.
But head coach Wayne Pivac has seen playmaker Owen Williams ruled out of the rest of the tournament with a hamstring problem.
Wing Adams – the top try scorer at the Japan World Cup with seven – scored a stunning hat-trick as Wales hammered Italy 42-0 in round one before suffering a hip knock against Ireland.
Adams was forced off in the first half in Dublin, but the Welsh Rugby Union have confirmed he will return to full training later this week ahead of Wales facing France a week on Saturday.
Gloucester’s Williams won’t be involved in that game as his awful luck with injuries continues.
He was due to be on the bench for Wales’ 24-14 defeat by Ireland but pulled out in the warm-up.
The hamstring injury he suffered at Aviva Stadium will mean Williams – who hasn’t played for Wales since November 2017 due to injuries – is now set for another long spell on the sidelines.
His absence will be a worry for Pivac given first-choice fly-half Dan Biggar also came off against Ireland with a head knock – his third in five months.
Biggar will return to English club Northampton Saints this week for further assessment but is unlikely to be risked for their home clash with Bristol on Sunday.
Jarrod Evans is the only other option at No 10 for Wales in their current squad.
Wales’ next clash with France will see them go head-to-head with their former defence coach Shaun Edwards who has had an unbeaten start to life with Les Bleus.
France have beaten England and Italy to stay on course for a Grand Slam and Wales prop Dillon Lewis said: “France’s defence does look very familiar!
“They played outstandingly against England, but there are areas we can exploit and we’ll be looking at them. It will be an exciting Test.”
