Sheed won’t sink the boot into Pies

At about the same time Collingwood returned to the track for the first time in 2019 with a two-kilometre time trial, West Coast midfielder Dom Sheed sat down in front of reporters to discuss the famous kick that sunk the Magpies on grand final day.

It wasn't the first, and it certainly won't be the last, time the left-footer has been asked to appraise the goal that won the Eagles their fourth flag and consigned Collingwood to runners-up, again.

They also have some hungry youngsters with Collingwood defender Nathan Murphy, who played senior football in 2018 but was left out for the finals, saying he was aiming to play in the JLT Community Series on his way to forcing his way into the team more often than not in his second season.

"I think it’s just [about] getting more confidence in myself," Murphy told Collingwood's website.

"I guess I’ve had that year in the system now and I know … where I need to get to, to get back in the side."

The Magpies had a solid hitout after Tom Phillips won the time trial, with Jamie Elliott continuing on light duties as he attempts to overcome his hamstring battles. Daniel Well ran laps and used the ball sparingly alongside first-year player Will Kelly, who is recovering from ankle surgery.
