Ryder Cup tracker: Scoring updates from Friday’s fourball and foursome matches

Jordan Spieth didn’t make the Tour Championship field, the only American player who wasn’t at East Lake last week.

It made no difference in the opening holes of the Ryder Cup on Friday morning. Spieth had the hot putter early, giving the Americans their only lead at the moment. His birdie putt on the fifth gave the U.S. a 2-up advantage against  Europe's Tyrrell Hatton and Paul Casey.

At 25, Spieth is already a Ryder Cup veteran, coming in with a 4-3-2 record playing on the last two teams. He's paired with Justin Thomas, No. 4 in the world rankings, who can hardly be called a rookie, but is making his Ryder Cup debut. 

And on the seventh, Spieth birdies again to get to 3-up, still the only lead for the U.S.
