Real Madrid 'made contact with Chelsea yesterday' over £100m Hazard transfer shortly before his 'idol' Zidane returned as manager

The Frenchman is a huge fan of the Chelsea winger and wants him to be their marquee signing at the end of the season.

Zizou was further encouraged by Hazard's availability when he described the three-time Champions League winner as his idol.

Speaking two years ago, Hazard told a Belgian TV channel: "Everyone knows the respect I have for Zidane as a player, but also as a manager. He was my idol,

"I do not know what will happen in the future. However, for sure, to play under Zidane would be a dream."

Hazard has been a long-term target for Los Blancos and his reluctance to sign a new contract only emphasises his desire to move.

The 28-year-old will have just one-year left on his current deal in the summer and the Telegraph report that Real have already put together a package with £100million.

He would also earn in the region of £300,000-a-week.

Chelsea are reluctant to lose their star man but know he will be available for nothing in January 2020.

Hazard is expected to tell the Blues that he wants to leave this summer while facing the threat that they could miss out on Champions League football.

But Chelsea's impending transfer ban could mean they will block Hazard from making the switch because they won't be able to sign a replacement.
