Storyline of the day ?
Ted Bach took the opening race at Fontwell. It was the chaps first start for trainer Paul Henderson and Paddy Brennan's first ride back from his unintended holiday. In Brennan's words he was 'booted out the house this morning.'
But here's where the fun starts. The owner saw the horse run in Ireland and told Henderson to watch a few replays and get back to him.
Henderson wasn't taken with what he saw and promptly replied, "Nah, not for me." The owner laughed, "well I bought him!"
Henderson asked who for? "For you," replied the owner, "he's on the ferry and will be with you first thing tomorrow."
Horse on the up ?
2.40 Clonmel – Allaho
Allaho bought himself a ticket to Cheltenham with a taking win in the Grade 3 Mercedes-Benz Novice Hurdle.
The Albert Bartlett looks tailor made for him and the 20-1 available was promptly snapped up by eager punters. 12-1 is the general price on offer now.
Willie Mullins didn't rule out a shot at the Ballymore, but even Willie half-chuckled at that suggestion.
He looks a work in progress, but he's in the right hands and as ever, the potato race can throw up some interesting results.
One for your tracker ?
3.35 Kelso – Aye Right
This six-year-old looked beat a couple of times up at Kelso, but kept on plugging on.
He was beaten in a photo but I'm convinced the handicapper is playing catch-up with him, so long as he avoids a over zealous hike.
The better jockey won on the day and it clearly stung the pockets of a few hardy punters.
Harriet Graham's hurdler was gambled heavily into odds-on, but will repay backers in the near future.
