John Gosden's star colt has the option of either the QEII over a mile, or the Champion Stakes over two furlongs further.
But, with the going switched to Soft (Heavy in places) on Monday morning – following close to 50mm of rain falling at Ascot since Friday – connections could drop Roaring Lion to a mile for the first time since the 2000 Guineas.
With the Gosden-trained Cracksman running in the Champion Stakes, but the Qatar Racing owned-Lightning Spear in the QEII, connections are in for a couple of sleepless nights.
David Redvers, racing and bloodstock manager for Qatar Racing, said: "John Gosden and I are walking the course on Thursday morning and a decision will be made then."
Gosden added: "He would be the very legitimate favourite for the QIPCO Champion Stakes, but would not want it very soft or heavy.
"He's got the class and speed to run over that mile (QEII)if that were the case and we'll keep an eye on what's around us (weather wise)."
The three-time Group 1-winner was trimmed into 4-1 for the QEII and is 5-1 for the Champion Stakes.
Stablemate Cracksman leads the betting in that race at 11-8 with Crystal Ocean at a best-priced 4-1.
