Pro gamer banned from playing FIFA 19 blames being from London for using homophobic slur

Tassal Rushan, part of the FaZe Clan, was annoyed at continually picking Inter Milan's Matias Vecino from the Fifa Ultimate Team Player Picks packs, and labelled the card a "fag".

EA Sports, the game developers, have responded to the footage by reprimanding the player with an indefinite ban from the game.

Rushan has issued a video following the news, claiming he was unaware of the term's homophobic meaning.

He said in a video on Youtube: "It's a very unfortunate, unintentional misunderstanding from my end.

"Due to where I've been brought up, the connotation of that word from my perspective until now, it was just another word for prick or idiot.

"Not even one per cent of me knew it had any type of derogatory connotation towards homosexuality at all.

"First of all, if I knew it did, there is no way I'm saying anything like that. I would never say anything like that, trust me.

"I think some of you guys could back me up on this. Who's from London? Did you know that word had that connotation?"

A Fifa e-World Cup and Gfinity champion, Rushan has issued an additional apology to his significant following suggesting that he deserves forgiveness for the indisgression, much like idol Thierry Henry.

The nadir of the former Arsenal striker's career came when his handball led to France equalising against Republic of Ireland in a play-off match and going on to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

Though the incident did cast a shadow over Henry's career, his status as one of the best ever forwards to represent Les Blues and the Gunners has not been tarnished.

And in a desperate plea to EA, Rusdan feels he deserves similar treatment.

He added: "For some reason I might be a role model to some of you.

"But I admire role models like Thierry Henry. Everything in his career was not always positive. There were some issues. It was how he responded to them.

"So, I'm here, I want to respond as positive as possible. I really want to come back."
