ANGELA LEE scored a stunning submission win with TEN seconds remaining to ensure she matched brother Christian with victory in Tokyo.
ONE Championship poster-girl and atomweight champion Angela had to battle the urge to watch her little brother in the final of the lightweight Grand Prix.
Christian – who replaced injured Eddie Alvarez on 10-days notice – defeated Dagi Arslanaliev on points before racing through his medical checks to corner his sister.
And it took a last gasp choke from Angela to avenge her defeat against Xiong Jing Nan and make sure the first ever MMA world champion siblings kept a 100 per cent win ratio in the Lee household on the night.
Angela told SunSport in Tokyo: “With both our performances and the magnitude of the event we’re on I’m very proud.
“Very proud of my brother and I were able to perform to the best of our abilities and showcase our skills on the celebration of 100 events for ONE Championship.
“There couldn’t have been a better ending for us – but actually, this is just the beginning. I’m so happy.”
Christian was exhausted after his three round battle with Dagi and threw up four times in the cage.
But the ONE Championship lightweight king did not even have time to get out of his fight shorts as he rushed to join dad Ken and corner Angela.
He said: “It was quite a rush getting back there, we had the standard procedure of the medical check, I was exhausted – I’m sure the cameras caught me throwing up in the cage, thanks to the two-weeks notice.
“But I told Angela I was going to be in her corner for her fight no matter what, nothing was going to stop me.
“I’ve got a beautiful belt here but it didn’t even cross my mind, all that was on my mind was getting out there and cornering Angela for her fight.
“And no, I didn’t have time to get changed.”
As Christian helped guide Angela to a main-event winning performance, ONE Championship’s atomweight queen had to desperately stop herself from watching her brother backstage – before becoming inspired by his win.
She said: “I didn’t watch it, I just had my headphones on and just focussing on my fight but afterwards I got the news, Christian did amazing and I’m so happy for him.
“But when Christian came back and he was so pumped up from his fight he was like ‘Yeah Angela it’s your time’.
“And I was like, ‘Okay, let’s tone it down a little bit, okay breathe’. We had to keep it like this calm state of mind, conserve all this energy for the fight and heck, we both needed it today.”
Christian now targets a title defence against ex-UFC lightweight champion Alvarez on ONE Championship’s live US debut next year.
But after his knackering night of fighting and coaching, he is relishing time to celebrate their victories on a history-making occasion with his martial arts family.
He added: “The first word that pops into my head right now is grateful. Very grateful.
“We had the opportunity to share the biggest fight of the century, and fight in Japan with all my whole family.
“Grateful we both came out with two very shiny belts tonight.”
Angela will now turn her attention to a trilogy bout with Xiong, with the score tied at one apiece – though she is targeting a ONE Championship Grand Prix belt after falling in love with Christian’s.
She said: “I’m kind of jealous of the belt, man, it’s so beautiful.”
