Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan jokingly smacked and scorned guard Malik Monk after the second-year player drew a technical foul for prematurely celebrating the team's 108-107 win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.
Jordan, the Hornets' majority owner since 2010, was seen chewing out Monk after he ran out onto the floor to celebrate Jeremy Lamb's go-ahead jumper with 0.3 seconds left. The eventual game-winner gave the Hornets a 108-106 lead.
With the game not officially over and Monk's celebration premature, Charlotte's bench was dealt a one-shot technical on the play by officials after a brief video review.
After Jordan and Monk jawed back and forth and Jordan smacked Malik upside the head, they could be seen cracking smiles at the situation — since it wasn't going to cost the Hornets the game.
Jordan, a Hall of Famer who is considered one of the greatest competitors of all-time, was known for admonishing his teammates during games and practices in his heyday with the Chicago Bulls.
Monk, a 6-3 guard from Kentucky, is averaging 10.3 points a game for Charlotte (14-13) this season.
