Mets watch other hot-seat manager, Dave Martinez, go absolutely nuts

In what seemed improbable at the start of the week, the manager most at risk of losing his job at Citi Field might not be Mickey Callaway after all.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez has been feeling the heat of late, and it seemed to boil over on Thursday afternoon.

Martinez was tossed in the eighth inning of Wednesday’s game in Flushing after arguing a check swing on a called third strike against Howie Kendrick. He proceeded to throw a tantrum, tossing his hat onto the ground and kicking dirt at the home-plate umpire, Bruce Dreckman.

Heading into Thursday, Martinez’s Nationals had lost four straight games and sat in fourth place in the NL East despite an expectation to compete. They were facing a sweep at the hands of the Mets, with Callaway on a similar hot seat.

Speculation surrounding Martinez’s job status has grown in recent weeks. This likely won’t put a stop to it.
