Mauro Icardi slams in 25-yard volley for Inter Milan against Tottenham silencing Robbie Savage's stinging criticism

Just minutes after being labelled as "poor" by Savage for his performance for Inter Milan against Tottenham, Icardi scored a worldie.

With his team 1-0 down to Spurs courtesy of a Christian Eriksen deflected effort, Icardi decided to announce himself into the game.

He crashed home a 25-yard volley that flew past Michel Vorm in the visiting team's goal.

And Savage's tune certainly changed after the ball flew into the goal.

And this led to the former Leicester and Birmingham being ridiculed on Twitter.

'Denzil' wrote: "Robbie Savage digging Icardi out 10 mins ago for being useless. He's his best mate now."

'Ben' scoffed at Savage's comments, writing: "Robbie Savage – not impressed with Icardi, first time I’ve seen him play, looks poor.

"5 mins later – Robbie savage – what a goal from Icardi, great technique! That’s sensational."

Jack Shanks wrote that British pundits "are clueless outside the Premier League", while Dan Bartle added that he was a "big fan" at how it played out.

Twitter user 'Jacob' wrote that Savage was "eating humble pie"

Spurs were left devastated after Inter Milan fought back from a goal down at home to secure a 2-1 victory in their opening Champions League game.

Icardi's moment of magic started the comeback before Matias Vecino won it with an injury-time header.
