He travelled to Augusta as one of the favourites to wear the illustrious Green Jacket, but once again it’s ended in disappointment for Rory McIlroy.

The Brit failed to make it through to the weekend after a disappointing and uncharacteristic display on Friday. Sportsmail’s OLIVER HOLT questions why The Masters has always been the World No 2’s Kryptonite…


Round two was abandoned yesterday in the most dramatic of circumstances after not one, or two – but THREE pine trees threatened the safety of Augusta’s supporters, crashing to the floor as a result of the weather.

The disturbing scenes rightly prompted the Masters chiefs to call off the action until Saturday, which is what brings us here slightly earlier this afternoon.

As it stands, it’s looks as though the thunderstorms have subsided and play will continue at 1pm as planned, but it could have a major impact on the form of the golfers. Those playing badly will have welcomed the extra break ahead of an almighty scrap to make the cut.

If the delay drags on any longer, then the tournament could continue into Monday – and that hasn’t happened in over 40 years at The Masters.

It promises to be yet another enthralling day in Augusta…

Well, good news! Sportsmail has extended its coverage of day three after yesterday’s weather chaos, with Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland and the remaining stars yet to finish round two set to return shortly in the bid to make the weekend’s cut.

Organisers have scheduled tee off for 1pm BST, which means we have less than an hour of build up before the players grace Augusta once again.
