Marcos Alonso admits Chelsea could be out of title race if they lose against Man City this weekend

Maurizio Sarri's side suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Wolves last night – with Alonso coming in for particular criticism from Blues supporters.

Fans blasted him for being "woeful" and a "liability" as goals from Raul Jimenez and Diojo Jota secured a shock win for Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

Guardiola's side overcame a spirited Watford 2-1 to sit two points clear of Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp's side beat Burnley 3-1.

And Alonso is certain that Chelsea – currently ten points behind the league leaders and showing too much confidence according to Sarri  – will be battling it out for a top four spot only if they lose to City.

He said: "If we lose we are going to be 13 points from the top and that's a lot of points.

"But we have to think, prepare for the game and not pay attention to the table at the moment.

"We have to play more as a team. It's something we have to analyse. We will try our best to improve as soon as possible."

And Alonso admitted Chelsea are in a slump with just four points from their past four games.

He said: "We're not doing very well at the moment. We have to get better as a collective.

"The last few games we were not loyal to our style of play and, maybe [even] if we didn't deserve, we lose.

"We are going through a hard moment and you have to work very hard, stay together and get back to winning as soon as possible."
