Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho admits he is 'not confident' David De Gea will sign new contract

The Red Devils boss has urged the club to extend the stay of the Spanish international, who is poised to become a free agent next summer.

Negotiations with the 27-year-old have been ongoing for a number of months, but it is understood that no agreement is close to being made.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mourinho said: "I am not confident. I cannot find the word in English, but let's see what happens.

"Only the club, David and his people can answer that. My comment is only that everyone knows how good he is, how important he is for Manchester United.

"And, if the club want to be better than it is and not worse, obviously it would be very important to keep David."

SunSport exclusively revealed that the Special One fears De Gea will move on at the end of the season to join Serie A giants Juventus.
