The England striker had to remain on the pitch after United were hit with a triple injury blow in the first half – but will most likely miss the Crystal Palace clash on Wednesday.
Rashford was seemingly limping just 20 minutes into the game but – following a flurry of injuries seeing Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and sub Jesse Lingard all hauled off before half-time – he had to play through the pain.
Solskjaer revealed after the game that the 21-year-old striker's ankle "ballooned" but he could not take him off the pitch having run out of subs.
And the Norwegian praised Rashford for his heroics in the Liverpool clash and called him a "Manc warrior".
He told MUTV: "He’s a Manc and he knows what this means. We had to keep him on because we’d made three subs.
"You come out with so many positives today, the fans were our 11th man today because we had half of Marcus and the crowd was fantastic."
Rashford thanked Red Devils fans for their support with a message on social media that read: "Old Trafford, thank you, you kept us going!"
But Solskjaer revealed he would be surprised to see his striker play on Wednesday when United travel to Selhurst Park.
He told Sky Sports: "I haven't seen him after the game or after he had treatment. If he plays, I'll be surprised.
"He did his ankle straight away. We should have taken him off straight away, but we couldn't.
"We played with 10-and-a-half men, but Rashford's attitude made up for it as well."
United's injury crisis is deepening as four Red Devils players now seem to face longer spells on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, Anthony Martial is yet to recover from his groin problem suffered in the Champions League draw to Paris Saint-Germain and Nemanja Matic will miss two weeks with an injury picked up in training.
