De Bruyne, still expected to be out for two months, was on crutches and with a brace on his leg at the premiere of Amazon's documentary All or Nothing on Wednesday.
The Belgian midfielder had suffered an injury in training and City were concerned he would be out until November.
But, according to Belgian newspaper HLN, the 27-year-old does not need surgery and is expected to be out for around two months.
That could see him miss games against Liverpool, Tottenham and the Manchester derby.
De Bruyne had flown out to Barcelona on Thursday to begin treatment with Pep Guardiola's favourite doctor Ramon Cugat.
Cugat has a history of helping footballers get back to peak condition as fast as possible.
De Bruyne's teammate Kyle Walker spoke of De Bruyne's influence but believes the champions can cope without him.
At the All or Nothing premiere, Walker said: "Kevin is a great player and it’s just unfortunate that it’s happened to him in training but there’s more than enough depth in the squad.
"We don’t just rely on one player. It’s a team game and whoever steps in will do well.
"Obviously it’s a big loss but we’ve got more than enough cover."
