Juventus to watch Alderweireld against Ajax as they eye bargain £25m transfer

JUVENTUS are sending a scout to watch Toby Alderweireld in Tottenham's Champions League semi-final with Ajax, according to reports.

The Italian champions are weighing up a summer switch for the Spurs defender ahead of a busy summer of transfers.

A host of top European clubs are keeping a close eye on the 30-year-old's contract situation at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Alderweireld heads into the summer with just a year left on his current deal which also includes a £25million release clause.

According to Calciomercato, the Old Lady are prepared to match that fee which can be met up to July 26, two weeks before the transfer deadline.

But they are braced to face serious competition.

SunSport exclusively revealed how both Manchester United and Arsenal are also in the market for his signature.

The Premier League duo are desperate to land a central defender and know they will struggle to find better value across Europe.

Arsenal, who face the prospect of missing out on Champions League football, have a tight budget while Manchester United will be able to trump their wage packet.

But with the Red Devils also facing an uphill battle to finish in the top four, Juventus will have the upper hand in negotiations.

Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, who looked at Alderweireld before bringing in Aymeric Laporte last season, may also pounce with injury-hit Vincent Kompany recently turning 33.
