Joe Maddon rips Cubs catcher Willson Contreras for failing to hustle

Cubs catcher Willson Contreras earned a strong rebuke from his manager after standing to watch a would-be home run in Sunday's game against the Reds at Wrigley Field.

Pinch-hitting in the fifth inning, Contreras hit a ball to dead center field The 26-year-old thought it was going to be a game-tying homer, failing to run as he admired his work. The ball hit the wall and Contreras had to sprint, barely making it safely to second base for a double.

"Horrible," Maddon said. "I didn't like that at all. Not at all. And that will be addressed. The whole team didn't like that."

Contreras expressed his remorse for pimping the would-be homer and acknowledged that he let down his teammates.
