In the latest twist in their ongoing feud, the Jets on Saturday cut offensive guard Kelechi Osemele.
The team announced the move after Osemele had surgery Friday, against the Jets wishes, on his torn right labrum.
Osemele’s agent, Andrew Kessler, told ESPN the damage to his clients shoulder was more extensive than anticipated and accused the Jets team doctor for violating an unspecified State Medical Board Regulations.
Jets coach Adam Gase and GM Joe Douglas have remained quiet on the matter, likely because of the legal fight that could ensue.
Osemele played just three games this season before being benched because of his play, and said Wednesday that three different doctors believed he needed surgery for the torn labrum, but the Jets feel he could play through the injury for the rest of the season.
He was fined by the Jets last week for conduct detrimental to the team after he refused to practice. The team plans to fine Osemele a game check — approximately $580,000 — each week he doesn’t practice.
Osemele has already filed a grievance through the players association to recoup any lost wages, meaning this battle is far from over.
