Jermain Defoe reveals he is STILL waiting for League Cup medal more than a decade on

Defoe, now 36, played in all of five Tottenham's matches up until the final in February 2008 by which point he had joined Portsmouth.

It meant he could not feature in the Wembley final as Spurs came from behind to beat Chelsea after extra time.

And the Bournemouth striker said he did not ever receive the medal he deserved for the part he played in the successful cup run.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Defoe said: "I'm still waiting for my medal! It was nice because at the end of the day they were my team-mates and good friends.

"Things happen. I suppose later down the line you think it could have been a lot different. You never know I could come here and win it."

In response, EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey said he was made aware and will be getting in touch with Defoe to get it sorted.

Defoe played in the 2-0 wins against Middlesbrough, Blackpool and Manchester City, scoring against City, before the turn of the year.

He then also featured in both legs of the semi-final against rivals Arsenal, a 1-1 draw in the first leg and a memorable 5-1 win to secure their place at Wembley.

It meant Robbie Keane partnered Dimitar Berbatov up front but new signing Darren Bent remained an unused substitute.

To make matters worse, Defoe was also ineligible for the FA Cup final in May of the same year.

The former England striker joined Portsmouth in January 2008 but had already played in the competition for Spurs in the same season.

So when Portsmouth took on Cardiff, Defoe was again unable to feature and is still yet to feature in a major cup final in his career.

He added: "Obviously I went to Portsmouth and to win the FA Cup, even though I was cup-tied but still being in that environment, was special.

"That was crazy when that happened. When I went to Portsmouth it was nice seeing the boys lift the trophy especially when you know you've contributed a little bit."

He netted eight goals in his first seven appearances by the end of March for Pompey but was limited to league games.
