LEWIS HAMILTON failed to challenge for pole position as the Italian Grand Prix was hit by a qualifying farce.
Hamilton and EIGHT other drivers failed to cross the start line before the end of third qualifying as they all came unstuck playing a game of poker.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was another who cocked up – but he will start at the front of the grid after running quickest in the first run of Q3.
Mercedes star Hamilton took second spot – and stewards immediately revealed they will investigate what went on.
Leclerc said: "I'm happy with the pole. It's a shame but there was a big mess at the end… Let's hope for a good race tomorrow"
Hamilton added: "I have to be grateful that I'm on the front row.
"We split the Ferraris, which as a team is a good position to be in."
Ex-world champion Nico Rosberg told Sky F1: "They are not allowed to do that. They were all faking lock-ups."
