The Chelsea boss saw N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Pedro score at the John Smith’s Stadium to get their season up and running.
And it was an easy afternoon for Kepa Arrizabalaga, the world’s most expensive keeper who was also on debut after his £71million move from Athletic Bilbao.
Kante opened the scoring with Chelsea’s first shot of the match, a scuffed effort after Willian had swung in a cross.
Chelsea doubled the lead before the break thanks to a sweeping move that saw Ross Barkley flick Marcos Alonso through on goal.
Christopher Schindler brought Alonso down in the area and it allowed Joringho to roll the ball home after sending Ben Hamer the wrong way.
Chelsea should have added more goals in the second half from Willian’s dangerous corners.
His first set-piece saw Hamer scrambling across goal to save from Antonio Rudiger’s header.
Then Alonso hit the bar from another dead-ball from the Brazilian with scissor-kick after Rudiger had flicked on.
The third goal eventually came when Eden Hazard came off the bench and produced some magic.
