JET OF MAGIC (2.55 Sandown, nap)

He has fewer miles on the clock than most of these and has improved since joining Paul Nicholls for this season.

He was a good second in a hot contest at Cheltenham last time when staying well and that stamina will be a major asset.

TWINJETS (1.10 Sandown, nb)

He has shown plenty in the novice ranks and followed a gutsy Leicester success with a nine-length victory at Plumpton.

He saw out a similar trip strongly and the handicapper hasn’t gone mad with his opening mark. He has more to come.

GRIVETANA (3.16 Musselburgh, treble)

She wasn’t at her best at Newbury last time but that came after two close seconds in good company.

A return to that form would give her a massive chance from what looks a fair handicap mark.

She has plenty of zip for this trip and Paul Nicholls has a handy 36 per cent win rate with his rare Musselburgh runners.

Templegate's TV verdicts

SANDOWN

1.10

TWINJETS has shown plenty in the novice ranks and followed a gutsy Leicester success with a nine-length victory at Plumpton.

He saw out a similar trip strongly and the handicapper hasn’t gone mad with his opening mark. He has more to come.

Heaven Smart improved when beaten a neck at Lingfield after two very quiet runs. His opening mark could also be on the generous side.

Twin Power chased home the tip at Plumpton. He needs to improve but the Paul Nicholls runner gets a stone today which should bring them closer together.

1.45

DOLOS loves this race with an impressive three wins and a second from four runs in it.

Paul Nicholls’ hope is in decent form after his third in the Grade 2 Desert Orchid last time. He can strike again from 3lb higher than last year’s win.

Frero Banbou is down the weights and was a fair third here last time. He won’t be far away.

Eclair D’Ainay jumps well and went close at Wetherby last time out at Christmas. Some rain would help as soft ground is ideal.

Kiltealy Briggs is back on his last winning mark and trainer Jamie Snowden is in decent form.

Fast Buck destroyed his rivals at Lingfield latest. This is tougher but he likes this trip and is another to consider.

2.20

GERRI COLOMBE has looked a potential superstar since his quick switch to chasing.

Gordon Elliott’s hope took a Limerick Grade 1 in style last time on just his second spin over fences.

He stays well and the only doubt is the ground as he’s done most of his running on softer.

Monmiral hasn’t matched his hurdles form yet but looked better when second in the Dipper Chase at Cheltenham last time. He can chase home the Irish raider.

Balco Coastal was an easy handicap winner at Kempton and deserves this crack at stronger company. He’ll need a bit more though.

Thunder Rock was third in the Dipper and needs to improve on that to score.

2.55

JET OF MAGIC has fewer miles on the clock than most of these and has improved since joining Paul Nicholls for this season.

He was a good second in a hot contest at Cheltenham last time when staying well and that stamina will be a major asset.

Remastered is in cracking form and won a nice prize over fences last time.

He scored on his last hurdles run and is actually 4lb lower than that latest success. He’s a proper stayer who won’t be far away.

Call Me Lord should have won at Sandown two runs ago but his rider rode to the wrong winning post.

He didn’t match that at Cheltenham last time but has the class to figure here.

Flight Deck was impressive at Chepstow and even a 7lb rise in the weights may not put the brakes on.

Schalke is an each-way player after a good win at Kelso. Some rain would help his chances.

3.30

EMPIRE STEEL finished with plenty left in the tank having been hampered on comeback at Aintree last time.

He should be fitter for that first run in eight months and takes a drop in class here. He looks a major player.

Rapper is a big threat after his easy win at Cheltenham last time. He stayed further there so won’t be flagging at the finish and a 6lb rise in the weights seems fair.

Eva’s Oskar is another coming here after a Prestbury Park win. That wasn’t quite so emphatic but the form looks strong and he’s right in the hunt again.

Laskalin has been in good form and wasn’t beaten far at Newbury last time.

He has a chance off the same mark, while Bangers And Cash kept finding more to score at Market Rasen. This is tougher but he can improve.

MUSSELBURGH

1.28

DRUMBEAR made a winning start to his chase career with almost five lengths to spare at Limerick.

He kept it simple from the front and shapes as though this slight step up in trip will be a plus. He goes on any ground and has more to offer over fences.

Notlongtillmay had 16 lengths to spare when scoring over course and distance last month. He jumped well and saw out this trip strongly.

The champion jockey takes over from a 3lb claimer and he is a threat despite a rise in the weights.

Halo Des Obeaux came back to chasing with a solid second at Newbury and can’t be ignored from 5lb higher than his last win, which came over hurdles.

Bear Ghylls held his own at Grade 1 level over the smaller obstacles. He’s not come close that as a chaser but it’s early days and he’s come down the weights.

Half Shot has his sights raised so needs more.

2.03

THE WOLF went close in this race 12 months ago and has a big chance from 2lb lower in the handicap.

He has his quirks but plenty of ability on his day and this stamina test is right up his street.

Tide Times jumped out to the left when still winning well at Ludlow last time.

He clearly has a good engine but going right-handed today may not be ideal.

Slipway loves these Nationals and won one at Perth in April before coming back to win the Southern National at Fontwell in November.

He stays all day and even another 7lb hike in the weights may not stop the hat-trick.

Flower Of Scotland won the Borders National at Kelso over four miles so won’t be stopping here. She could still be ahead of the handicapper.

Captain Cattistock wasn’t beaten far at Cheltenham last time and has place claims.

3.16

GRIVETANA wasn’t at her best at Newbury last time but that came after two close seconds in good company.

A return to that form would give her a massive chance from what looks a fair handicap mark.

She has plenty of zip for this trip and Paul Nicholls has a handy 36 per cent win rate with his rare Musselburgh runners.

Collingham has been knocking on the door and was second in a similar race to this here last time. His rider’s 10lb claim can come in handy.

Nayati finished ahead of him but has to give him a lot more weight today. He’s not out of this though given his liking for the trip and track.

Lebowski came back to form when scoring at Wetherby and is respected. He had the race sewn up a long way out and a 7lb rise looks about right.

Camprond has talent but has lost his way a little and is best watched.

WETHERBY

2.40

BALLYGRIFINCOTTAGE looks a cut above the other three and can score again.

He signed off last season with an excellent fourth in the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Hurdle at Cheltenham.

He switched to fences after just three runs and made a winning start at Haydock.

He only had two rivals to beat but jumped really well and looks capable of a lot better.

O’Toole had lots left in the tank when winning on his first run over fences at Newcastle last month.

He had the race won well before his rival’s late fall and can take a step forward.
