Greater Western Sydney star Josh Kelly's season is not over but the gun midfielder is rated only a "minor chance" of being fit for the Giants' semi-final against Collingwood.
The Giants will give their reigning best and fairest "every chance" to prove his fitness after tearing the meniscus in his right knee.
Josh Kelly given a “minor” chance of playing in the semi-final against Collingwood.
Kelly suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Giants' victory over Sydney on Saturday and was unable to return to the field.
Giants coach Leon Cameron said the issue was one he had been carrying the "last year or two".
"Is he a chance this week? Probably minor, but we'll give him every chance," Cameron said. "He's settled pretty well yesterday.
"There's still a good chance Josh Kelly will be playing again this year."
Sports doctor Peter Larkins cast doubt over Kelly's chances of playing again in 2018, saying most players who suffered such injuries missed a minimum of two-to-three weeks.
That timeframe would have Kelly also missing the preliminary final if GWS win this week.
"Knowing Josh he's hellbent on playing footy, especially in September, he'll be doing everything possible," Cameron said on SEN radio.
"He's going to be pushing it to get up for this weekend because there was an incident. If it's settled and settles very well and we feel he can perform his role we'll give him every chance.
"If we get to Thursday, Friday, we'll rule him out and push on if we're good enough to knock off the Pies."
Veteran Ryan Griffen and youngster Aidan Bonar, who was dropped for the first final, are among those in line to come in if Kelly is ruled out.
Chance: Bonar (centre) could be picked to replace Kelly this week.
Meanwhile, GWS duo Toby Greene and Jacob Hopper have accepted fines from the AFL match review officer after being cited for incidents in Saturday’s elimination final win over the Swans.
Greene has been fined $2,500 for misconduct for dropping his knee into the head of Sydney’s Isaac Heeney, while teammate Hopper copped a $2,500 sanction for careless umpire contact.
Sydney’s Zak Jones has accepted a $2,000 fine for rough conduct on Giants co-captain Callan Ward.
