The now-Paris Saint-Germain star continued to rage afterwards and called Oliver an “animal” who “has the heart of a rubbish bin.”
The incident led to Olivier receiving large amounts of abuse on social media.
And Buffon now admits he was out of line with his reaction.
The veteran told Sky Sports: “About the filthy rubbish bin?
“I don’t know what to say, I was furious and lost the plot and the Buffon from Carrara came out.
“[Next week against Napoli?] It will be a tricky game against a very good side.
“Carlo Ancelotti has given the team another way of thinking. Having to watch the games from the dressing room was really hard.”
