Players were left battered on the floor during a league match between Argentina's Universitario and Libertad over the weekend.
The row came after a coach was sent off for arguing with the ref's decision to award Universitario a penalty.
As arguments threatened to boil over off the pitch, one of the players from Universitario started shouting towards one of the coaches through the fence.
A player from Libertad stormed over and shoved her opponent before members of both sides were caught in the the fight.
Two team members from Universitario were left on the floor and were receiving kicks and punches as they struggled to defend themselves.
The referee was seen just watching the action unfold and one of the players hit out at his lack of actions.
Celeste Racca, who was one of the hospitalised players, told publication La Nacion: "Five of them threw me to the floor and I told my friend 'make yourself small because they are trying to kill us.'
"It's shameful, the support was nowhere to be seen. So much work is done for women's football and then these events happen, it's very painful."
The president of the league Emeterio Farias said: "There will be very harsh sanctions for the players involved."
