Former Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart signs for Danish top-flight side Esbjerg

The Dutch veteran, 35, was let go by Midtjylland at the end of last season but wanted to stay in Denmark to be with his girlfriend.

Van der Vaart had a trial with Esbjerg last month and admitted he will be earning "little money" at the club.

The ex-Spurs man tweeted the news, saying: "I’m very happy to announce that I’m now officially an @EsbjergfB player.

"Looking forward to start this new chapter. Thanks for your support!"

Last month, Van der Vaart revealed he was close to the move, saying: “It’s getting closer, so I’m happy with that.

"There are still discussions that my agent is in. I think it will be alright.

“I think we can find a solution, although I will earn little money.”

Van der Vaart spent a little over two seasons at White Hart Lane, scoring 24 times in 63 Premier League games.

The Dutchman has also played for Ajax, Hamburg, Real Madrid and Real Betis during his long career.
