Former college football coach Dave Jordan and his wife, Jean, were found dead at their home in a suspected homicide-suicide, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office's official records.
Jordan was the head coach at Grossmont College, a junior college outside of San Diego, for 23 years. He retired in 2006. The program is unaffiliated with the NCAA.
The couple, both 82 years old, were found Sunday morning at their home in El Cajon, California, with gunshot wounds to their heads. Jean Jordan was found with a gun in her hand. A suicide note was left on the sliding glass door entering the home.
The first person to arrive on the scene, according to the medical examiner's office, was Dave Jordan's physical therapist, who was not identified.
The medical examiner's office ruled Dave Jordan's death a homicide and Jean Jordan's death a suicide.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department did not immediately respond to USA TODAY Sports regarding a potential investigation.
Grossmont College competes in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA). Dave Jordan retired with a 135-89-9 record, according to the school's athletics archives. The Griffins, under Jordan's tutelage, won the state championship in 2005.
Jordan's son, Mike Jordan, is listed as the team's head football coach on the school website. Messages made by USA TODAY Sports to the Grossmont College athletic department were not immediately returned on Monday morning.
