The Brazilian striker lasted just 31 minutes of the goalless draw at Old Trafford on Sunday after sustaining an ankle injury.
Firmino landed awkwardly while playing a routine pass to Mo Salah and despite trying to continue was replaced by Daniel Sturridge.
The 27-year-old left Old Trafford on crutches and is now a huge doubt for the Premier League leader’s game at home to Watford on Wednesday.
And after game Klopp said: “It is his ankle. First he said he could carry on, then that he couldn't.
“I don't know exactly the extent of the problem.
“Bobby said at first he could carry on but then he showed it didn’t work.
“I don’t know exactly, it is Bobby, so it will be quicker than with all the others but first we have to know what it is exactly – and we don’t know at the moment.”
Firmino was the third of four players crocked in a bizarre first half at Old Trafford.
United midfielder Ander Herrera lasted 21 minutes and Juan Mata pulled up lame four minutes later.
Mata’s replacement Jesse Lingard, just back from a muscle injury himself did not last long and came off just before the break.
All this while Marcus Rashford had to soldier on for the entire game with an ankle knock knowing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was unable to replace him.
