Extra Brut has won the Victoria Derby.
The Darren Weir-trained horse ($10) held on from second-placed Stars Of Carrum and Chapada (third).
Proving to be the superior stayer in a fast-run Derby at only his sixth start, Extra Brut surged to the lead at the 300m and kept going under Australian-based Irish jockey John Allen.
Race favourite Thinkin' Big jumped at $3.10 but failed to feature in the finish.
After the race, winning jockey John Allen was full of praise for Extra Brut's trainer.
"It's unbelievable, really. I've come a long way in a couple of years and that's all due to Darren Weir and his team," Allen said.
"He rounded them up in a matter of strides. I thought I got to the front way too soon but all credit to him, he toughed it out."

Tim Clark on the unplaced Thinkin' Big said his ride may be at the end of his current preparation.
"I thought he got into a nice spot but he never travelled as comfortably today," he said.
