England stars in good spirits in training after Croatia’s star man is ruled out of Uefa Nations League clash

And they have every reason to be smiling after hearing that their key man, Ivan Rakitic, has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Barcelona confirmed that their central midfielder has an injury in his right leg and his return "will depend on his recovery."

His absence will be sorely missed by his coach Zlatko Dalic with the 30-year-old representing his country 101 times.

Both teams know a win will see them top the group and advance to the Final Four tournament in June, with loser getting relegated to League B.

A draw would also save England from dropping down because of their superior goal difference.

England head into the clash on the back of a 3-0 victory over USA but memories of the World Cup semi-final will be fresh in the memories of Gareth Southgate and the players.

The Three Lions crashed out of the tournament at the hands of Croatia in the 2-1 extra-time defeat.

Boss Southgate said ahead of the match: "We were very keen that we moved on from the World Cup as quickly as possible.

"It has been a brilliant year. Whatever happens on Sunday, we've had real shoots of progress and achieved some outstanding results and really good performances and blooded a lot of new players.

"It's given us a real depth to the squad and competition for places.

"But I think everybody wants to go another stage and get to a semi-final out of a group which is as tough as there has been in this competition.

"So, it is a really good game for everybody to look forward to."
