Emery out-Foxed by the boss tipped to replace him as he reaches 50 games at Arsenal but needs a ton of luck to make 100 – The Sun

THEY played the last post just before kick-off on the eve of ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

Many hard core Arsenal fans would have happily heard it played again at full-time for under-fire boss Unai Emery.

The hapless Spaniard suffered another painful defeat on his milestone 50th game in charge of the Gunners as Jamie Vardy and James Maddison put his side to the sword in the second half.

You wouldn’t bet on the former Valencia, Sevilla and PSG boss making it to his century now.

Once again, Emery had to endure the taunts of opposition fans who suggested his P45 employment form might be on his hall mat, before the Sunday papers had dropped in the morning.

Towards the end, when Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes toyed with their visitors, passing the ball around them at pace, every Ole’ would have cut the proud Spaniard to his core.

As would cruel chants of: “Are you Tottenham in disguise?”

Yet it should be said, for an hour, this was a much improved Arsenal performance.

OUT-FOXED BY HIS POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT

Had Hector Bellerin not blazed over from the edge of the box just after the break, when the Gunners broke at speed and had a 4 v 3 raid their favour.

Had the usually reliable Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang not strayed a yard offside as he swept, Sead Kolasinac’s low cross past Kasper Schmeichel.

It could have been a gritty point gained.

However we all know if your auntie had what her husband has, she’d be your uncle!

Emery needed a point here at least and came away empty-handed.

Out-Foxed by the man tipped to be his replacement.

Rodgers’ blue battalion had won their last four home games on the trot – spanking Bournemouth, Spurs, Newcastle and Burnley, while banging in a dozen goals in the process.

Right now the King Power must rank alongside Anfield and the Etihad as the last place you want to visit if you’re in crisis – especially on the back of a testing Europa League trip in midweek.

Chuck in the painful memory of a 3-0 whupping here on his last visit and the odds were stacked against Emery.

But it still took a smart substitution – the type his Arsenal critics claim Emery doesn’t make – to turn the tide in Rodgers’ favour.

As the stopwatch hit 60 minutes the Leicester boss made his move and it was a positive one.
