Dortmund make eye-watering £424.1m from sales in last three years after Pulisic deal… and are still top of Bundesliga

Christian Pulisic became the latest Westfalenstadion star to depart in a stunning £58m move to Chelsea.

Blues fans are convinced that will lead to Eden Hazard leaving Stamford Bridge when Pulisic arrives for good in the summer after being loaned back.

But the America midfielder is just the last in a long line of top world-class talent to leave.

The pinnacle was Ousmane Dembele's £135.5m move to Barcelona in August 2017.

That remains the third most expensive transfer in football, behind Neymar's £198m switch from the Nou Camp to Paris Saint-Germain and Mbappe's £158m move to the Parc des Princes.

Borussia Dortmund's £424.1m in sales

THE German club have seen a wave of top class talent depart the club for huge sums.

But incredibly they still top the Bundesliga ahead of European heavyweights Bayern Munich.

Here, we look at the sales over the past three seasons.

2016-17

  • Mkhitaryan to Man Utd £25m
  • Hummels to Bayern £30m
  • Gundogan to Man City £20m
  • Blaszczykowski to Wolfsburg £4.2m

2017-18

  • Dembele to Barcelona £135.5m
  • Aubameyang to Arsenal £56m
  • Ginter to Monchengladbach £14.9m
  • Mor to Celta Vigo for £13m
  • Bender to Bayer Leverkusen for £13.5m
  • Ramos to Granada for £4.5m

2018-19

  • Pulisic to Chelsea for £58m
  • Sokratis to Arsenal for £16m
  • Yarmolenko to West Ham for £17.5m
  • Merino to Real Sociedad for £10m
  • Castro to Stuttgart for £6m

TOTAL: £424.1m

Arsenal smashed their club record to land Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January last year.

The Gabon striker – who is joint top scorer in the Premier League this season alongside Harry Kane with 14 – arrived on a fee of £56m.

Arsenal had two bids rejected before that and Auba's arrival came eclipsed the £46.4m the Gunners paid for Alexandre Lacazette the previous summer.

And it looks like English clubs have been among those most willing to fork out big bucks for Dortmund's talent.

Arsenal winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan cost Manchester United £25m and Man City paid around £20m to land Ilkay Gundogan in the 2016-17 season.

This campaign, Arsenal again went to Dortmund to land Sokratis Papastathopoulos for around £16m.

And West Ham wrote a £17.5m cheque for Ukraine forward Andriy Yarmolenko.

Funnily enough, an English talent is part of the reason Dortmund continue to do so well.

Jadon Sancho has been a revelation since moving from Manchester City, even keeping Pulisic out the side while registering six goals and seven assists so far this campaign.

Paco Alcacer has smashed in 12 goals to be joint top scorer alongside Frankfurt's Luka Jovic.

And Marco Reus has 11 goals as well as five assists.

It all means Dortmund sit six points ahead of Bayern in the league.
