Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Akeem Spence was ejected Sunday for a personal foul unnecessary roughness against the Oakland Raiders.
Spence was flagged in the second quarter of the game for a post-play scuffle in which he ripped off Raiders guard Kelechi Osemele’s helmet.
During the play, Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake sacked Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. Then, after the whistle, Osemele and Spence got tangled up and engaged while both were on the ground.
The ejection was enforced as part of a revision in the NFL’s rules that grants referees discretion to disqualify players for egregious infractions, including post-play penalties.
