Premier League clubs may already be privately regretting their vote to close the transfer window prematurely compared to rival leagues.
In a World Cup year it is already a disaster, though the coming weeks will prove how strong clubs are in resisting European clubs from making bids for their players.
Just like every year though, there was panic in the closing hours, with many clubs yet to complete their plans ahead of the summer.
Manchester United and Tottenham were clearly intent on investing- but they could not get any deals over the line.
Instead, it was Everton and Fulham that were the most active.
