But in City fan Grimshaw, 20, he has a player who has been waiting for his chance for most of his young life.
A local boy from Swinton, the promising goalie is highly thought of by Guardiola and Man City's coaches.
So much so, back in June they tied Grimshaw down to a three-year extension of his contract.
He was then promoted to third choice keeper after the Citizens sold Joe Hart and Angus Gunn.
But as fate would have it, an injury to City's number two Claudio Bravo means that Grimshaw could be on the bench against Wolves.
City have recalled 19-year-old Aro Muric from his loan at Dutch side NAC Breda after Bravo ruptured his Achilles.
Montenegro Under-21 international Muric was third choice for City during last season's title-winning campaign, after moving from Swiss side Grasshoppers in 2015.
But Bravo's injury means Grimshaw moves up the pecking order.
Ever since he was nine years old, Grimshaw has been associated with the club – training with City's junior teams and developing his skills.

Last season he was a penalty shootout hero in the Uefa Youth League, producing outstanding displays against Liverpool and Inter Milan, before defeat to Barcelona in the semis.
Grimshaw's ability has been noted by Man City's director of football, Txiki Begiristain.
He said: "He is a goalkeeper of great potential and has impressed Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff over the past two seasons with his hard work and progress.
"As a result of this, Daniel will be increasingly involved in the first team set up next season.
“He is young and is still learning his trade, but we are happy he is continuing his education at Manchester City and look forward to watching him progress in the coming seasons."
City's young keeper Daniel Grimshaw
- Age: 20
- Nationality: English
- Height: 6ft 1in (1.85cm)
- Strong foot: Right
- Birthplace: Manchester
- Contract: Until June 2021
City could always make an emergency loan deal for a more experienced sub keeper in the future, but they may not have to.
In Grimshaw they have a promising talent who is desperate to please the club he adores and wants to follow his idols.
His dad Chris told the Manchester Evening News: "David James is one of Daniel's heroes, as is Peter Schmeichel.
"Daniel is a huge Manchester City fan and it is a dream come true for him to have signed for the blues.
"He wouldn't want to play for any other club. He has always wanted to be a professional footballer and this is a great opportunity for him."
Grimshaw's just one injury away from making that dream a reality.
