  • F1 GETS LES BLEUS

While the British Grand Prix will take place with NO fans, the French Grand Prix has been cancelled altogether.

The date, the last week in June, was too soon for the French government to consider letting it go ahead.

Another of France's premier sporting events, the Tour de France, has already been moved back to September.

And Rolland Garros has been switched too.

  • LIFE'S A PITCH

Arsenal will today become the first Premier League club to return to training.

SunSport revealed yesterday that the Gunners return training to the players this week.

The club have now confirmed the squad will end 47 days of isolation this morning by reporting back for duty.

Arsenal’s ten-pitch Hertfordshire HQ will be strictly conforming Government social-distancing rules — with players working on a different pitch and will have their own footballs to avoid any threat of cross-contamination.

A club source revealed: “We have been looking at opening up the training ground for a couple of weeks now because our players have been in lockdown longer than any other club’s.

“The players will continue to train in strict isolation on separate pitches and will not be allowed to mingle or socialise together.”

  • NO FANS, BUT SILVER LINING

British GP bosses have confirmed that this year's race will be behind closed doors – subject to government approval – while the French GP has become the 10th race to fall, reports BEN HUNT.

F1 chiefs have confirmed that the race at Paul Ricard, that was scheduled for June 28th, has been postponed due to the French government's extension of their coronavirus lockdown.

F1's owners, Liberty Media, had identified the French GP as a possible starting point for their ghost GPs, as SunSport suggested, with multiple races at the same venue.

However, the French President, Emmanuel Macron, has banned large gatherings in the country until mid July, meaning the race had to be canned.

Meanwhile, Silverstone chief, Stuart Pringle has written to ticket holders for the British GP on July 19th announcing that they cannot run the GP as normal.

  • PREM PUZZLE

Premier League players who went abroad during the UK lockdown could find themselves in a two-week quarantine headache.

Clubs are hoping to be able to start recalling their stars to training, initially for individuals and then small group sessions before full team training can resume.

And according to the Daily Mail, teams have informed players they should be available within 48 hours.

However, several players were given permission to head back home when the season was suspended on March 13.

That includes Brazilian pair Willian and Fernandinho, who are understood to still be in South America.

But the Government are planning to step up their measures for travellers arriving in the UK by placing them in quarantine for up to 14 days.
