Cooper Cronk named to play in NRL grand final

Cooper Cronk has staged a miraculous recovery to be passed fit for the Sydney Roosters and will take his spot at halfback in the grand final against his old club Melbourne.

After a week of intense speculation over the state of his injured shoulder – described by the Roosters as a "severe" rotator cuff injury – the 34-year-old will play in an eighth individual NRL decider.

The Roosters named Cronk at halfback with Paul Momirovski dropping out of the squad.

Helicopter footage shot from above the Roosters' captain's run at Allianz Stadium on Saturday showed Cronk not taking part in any of the minor premiers' final training session. But it was all a ruse.

The Storm were convinced all week that Cronk would take his place in the Roosters side, despite describing himself as a "longshot" and needing a "Hail Mary" earlier in the week.

Cronk will wear the no.23 jersey.

Mitchell Aubusson, who was originally named at halfback on Tuesday, will start in the back row with Isaac Liu reverting to the bench.
