Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri blasted by Napoli owner in fresh attack

The pair parted on bad terms when Sarri’s three-year stint in southern Italy came to an end earlier this year.

Despite leading Napoli to a club-record points haul, Sarri failed to stop the Juventus juggernaut from landing yet another Serie A title.

He eventually joined Chelsea in July as a replacement for Antonio Conte, leaving De Laurentiis to blast: “We gave him everything and we won nothing in three years.”

Now the Napoli president claims Sarri was only interested in making himself rich, eyeing the club as a personal piggybank.

De Laurentiis, who hired Carlo Ancelotti to replace Sarri, told Corriere dello Sport: “Sarri? I thought I had a met a coach who would stay at Napoli for a long time.

“At a certain point it became a question linked exclusively to money.

“Suddenly it was established by the media that his contract must be adjusted. So what is the value of an agreement just signed? We had already gone from 700,000 euros to 1.5million euros.

“I also once heard him say that for his next contract, he wanted to get rich.

“Sarri’s declaration of love for the city? I believed it, but then I wondered: ‘What if he was using me as a bank?’”
