FAILING Manchester United were stopped dead in their tracks by Old Trafford reject Josh King.
The Norwegian international years spent four years working with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reserve team but only managed one League Cup appearance for the seniors.
He was allowed to leave on a free transfer to Blackburn before signing for Bournemouth for a bargain £1million four years ago.
And how Solskjaer could have done with his former prodigy this afternoon as King’s stunning 45th minute ended his team’s recent mini-revival.
King, 27, took Adam Smith’s volley on his chest before flicking the ball over the head of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and volleying past David De Gea.
That was Bournemouth’s first goal in over a month and more than enough to take them above United in the Premier League table.
It was also the 11th consecutive away game in which United had failed to keep a clean sheet, equalling an unwanted club record stretching all the way back to January 2003.
And Solskjaer could have precious few complaints after his team’s recent run of three consecutive away wins was brought to an end.
The visitors did not manage a shot on target until the 57th minute when Andreas Pereira’s low effort brought a full stretch save from Bournemouth keeper Aaron Ramsdale.
But it was only in the final ten minutes that they were able to exert any real pressure, with sub Mason Greenwood volleying against the back post minutes after replacing Daniel James.
Anthony Martial thought he should have had a first-half penalty when he went down in a tangle of legs with Jefferson Lerma.
But referee Chris Kavanagh rejected his appeals after consulting with VAR.
