The former Bordeaux star, 21, signed for the Spanish champions this summer in controversial manner after Roma had initially agreed to land him.
The Brazilian has now opened up about his childhood growing up in the Buraco Quente favela in the Vila Formosa area of Sao Paulo.
He told reporters from his new club: "When I was young I spent my days playing football in the street with my friends, from morning until night.
"When I signed for Corinthians aged 10, I started training three times a week and I saw my friends less, but I managed to turn professional at 16.
"I don't know if people know this but my grandmother [Sonia] sold her frying pans so that I had money to be able to go to training.
"All the kids had money to train, I said it in my house and my grandmother sold her frying pans. Few people would do that."
Meanwhile, Malcom has revealed he can't wait to get started at Barca so he can play alongside Lionel Messi, saying: "I want to play next to Messi, the best player in the world.
"I always played as Barcelona in video games, I love the style of play here and I want to become a part of it."
Malcom scored 12 goals in 38 appearances for Bordeaux last season and Barcelona paid £36.5million for his services.
