Baltimore Orioles set team record for losses in a season

The 2018 Orioles have made history: This is the worst squad in the team's 64 years in Baltimore.

With a 6-4 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, the Orioles picked up loss No. 108 on the season, the most the team has ever accumulated in a year since moving to Baltimore for the 1954 season.

With 11 games to go, and with series against the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros to end the campaign, the Orioles still have a realistic shot at setting the franchise's overall mark for futility. The 1939 St. Louis Browns hold that "record" at 111 losses.

“You’re either playing in October or you’re not,” manager Buck Showalter said. “But these types of things make people think how far away you are. Like I said before, those things can change quickly. A lot of things can get better.”

This moment has been inevitable for a while now, but for a small time Tuesday it seemed the Orioles were going to delay the infamy. They led 4-0 after four innings, and 4-2 entering the seventh. The Blue Jays added four runs in the top of the seventh frame, however, and Baltimore would not challenge in any meaningful way the rest of the game.

While the game itself was more of the same for the O's this year (i.e. bad), the team also made some awesome history on Tuesday night. The Orioles became the first professional sports team to wear jerseys with all lettering in Braille in their National Federation of the Blind Night.
