When Seton Hall guard Myles Powell drained a step-back, double-clutching three-pointer from the left corner with one second left against Kentucky on Saturday, his teammates and Pirates fans at Madison Square Garden erupted as if the game was won.
Except there was still that one second left on the clock and it was Kentucky's turn to launch a buzzer-beater. Trailing Seton Hall 70-67, the Wildcats' Keldon Johnson heaved a halfcourt shot as time expired, only to watch it bank in and send the game into overtime at the Citi Hoops Classic.
Seton Hall went on to prevail in overtime, 84-83, thanks to another clutch three-pointer from Myles Cale with 11 seconds remaining. The triple turned out to be the game-winner as Kentucky failed to convert on the final play of the extra frame.
The Pirates (6-3) were carried by Powell's 28 points in the upset of the No. 8-ranked Wildcats (7-2). Kentucky's P.J. Washington led all scorers with 29 points and added 12 rebounds. UK shot just 25% from beyond the arc, including the half-court buzzer-beater.
