BOSTON — A half-inning after smashing a long home run over the Green Monster at Fenway Park on Sunday, Houston outfielder Marwin Gonzalez crashed hard into that same wall in pursuit of a Steve Pearce double.
Gonzalez leapt for Pearce’s line drive and managed to get a glove on it, but the ball bounced away as he rammed into the left-field scoreboard. The versatile 29-year-old veteran crumpled to the ground immediately after the collision, while center fielder George Springer fielded Pearce’s two-base hit.
Gonzalez appeared to hit his back and remained on the ground for several minutes while Astros trainers attended to him. He got up and stretched several times, but remained in the game.
Gonzalez's home run put the Astros up 4-2 at the time during Game 2 of the AL Championship Series.
